About the Course

Over time, case management has grown to recognise the need for approaches that are strengths-based, person-led, trauma-informed, and grounded in cultural safety. This workshop has been adapted in partnership with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations to reflect Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing—placing relationships, respect, and self-determination at the heart of effective practice.

This interactive two-day workshop explores the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to provide high-quality case management for individuals and families with complex needs. Through discussion and shared learning, participants will strengthen their confidence in supporting positive change while maintaining a focus on wellbeing and cultural safety.

Participants will:

  • Explore case management models, tools, and approaches that align with Aboriginal community values.

  • Understand the impacts of multiple and complex challenges such as trauma, substance use, domestic and family violence, and homelessness.

  • Build effective engagement skills for working with people who may be reluctant or resistant.

  • Apply strategies that empower individuals and families to lead their own change.

  • Reflect on best practice, boundaries, and self-care in complex work.

  • Strengthen collaboration and cultural responsiveness across services.
